Meet Our Team

At The New GAA, our educators are the heart of everything we do. Each member of our team brings passion, experience, and a shared commitment to nurturing the whole child.

We invite you to get to know the dedicated professionals who make our school a place where students feel seen, supported, and inspired—every single day.

 Kathryn Grovum

Head of School

Kathryn Grovum brings passion, dedication, and strong organizational leadership to her role as Head of School at The New GAA. Well known and loved by students and families, Kathryn has been an integral part of our community as both a French Teacher and Curriculum Director.

She is committed to creating a supportive, engaging learning environment for students while ensuring excellent communication and service for parents. With her vision and experience, Kathryn is helping lead The New GAA into an exciting new chapter of growth and success.

 Jillian Burghart

Assistant Head of School, Curriculum & Grade 1 Teacher

We’re excited to welcome Jillian Burghart back to The New GAA! A familiar and valued member of our community, Jillian previously played a key role in pioneering our Science of Reading program, helping to strengthen literacy instruction across the school.

This year, she will serve as our Acting Curriculum Director while also teaching Grade 1, bringing her expertise and passion for early education into the classroom every day. After spending the past two years at another private school, we are thrilled to have her back on our leadership team, guiding curriculum development and supporting excellence in teaching and learning.

 Emily Albrecht

Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten

Hi! My name is Emily, and I’m thrilled to be the Kindergarten teacher at the New GAA. I’m passionate about creating a warm, welcoming classroom where young learners can grow, explore, and develop a love for learning through play and inquiry. I love to plan fun and creative programs to capture every student’s attention and make learning exciting and meaningful.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time in nature, playing softball, reading, and working on creative projects, such as crocheting and sewing. I’m excited to get to know each of my students and their families and to make this a joyful and memorable school year!

 Jesica Bennett

Grade 2 & 3

Welcome! My name is Jesica Bennett and I’m excited to be heading into my third year as an Ontario Certified Educator here at The New GAA. I graduated with Honors from the University of Guelph and completed my Bachelor of Education at Trent University.

I’m passionate about creating a classroom that’s not just a place to learn, but a space where students feel energized, inspired, and supported. Whether we’re diving into new concepts or moving together for a brain break, I believe learning should be dynamic, interactive, and most importantly, FUN!

As a certified yoga instructor and meditation guide, I’m excited to bring mindfulness and movement into our school community to help students stay grounded, focused, and confident throughout the year.

Beyond the classroom, I love working one-on-one with students and families through my tutoring program. Personalized coaching allows me to help each learner thrive in their own unique way, and it’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

Here’s to an amazing 2025–2026 school year!

 Ritu Kumar

Grade 5 & 6

We are delighted to welcome Ritu Kumar back to The New GAA as our Grade 5/6 Homeroom Teacher. Ritu brings nearly two decades of experience in classroom teaching, curriculum design, leadership, and program development, having taught in private school settings both in Canada and abroad.

Holding a Professional Master of Education in Assessment and Evaluation, Ritu is a passionate, lifelong educator dedicated to fostering academic excellence while supporting the individual needs of each learner. Known for her attention to detail, collaborative approach, and commitment to continuous growth, Ritu creates a structured yet dynamic learning environment where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Sheila Holmes

Grade 7 &  8

I began my career as an Educational Assistant, supporting students in special education settings before transitioning into teaching. Working with students with exceptionalities and English Language Learners shaped my inclusive, student-centered approach.

With an Honours Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Elementary Education, I’m passionate about ensuring every child has access to meaningful, engaging learning experiences. I believe in differentiated instruction, scaffolding, hands-on exploration, and removing barriers so all students feel seen, valued, and capable of success.

If I had to describe myself in three words, they would be compassionate, flexible, and a little nerdy. I build strong relationships with my students, adapt to their needs, and bring genuine curiosity and a love of learning into the classroom.

Outside of school, I spend time with my husband, energetic three-year-old son, and our sweet old dog. We love the outdoors, especially when we’re hiking, camping, or enjoying the ocean air in Newfoundland.

It’s a joy to be part of the Glenn Arbour Academy community, and I’m excited for another year of learning, discovery, and growth together.

 Jocelyn McIntosh

Music Teacher

Hi, I’m Jocelyn McIntosh. I’ve been teaching music privately for over 15 years and spent 2.5 years at GAA, where I loved tailoring music to each class’s interests and needs. I hold my Grade 9 Royal Conservatory Piano certification and studied music performance at Mohawk College before continuing classical piano at McMaster University.

I also play in a few original bands around the GTA and draw inspiration from artists like Joni Mitchell, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Beatles. Outside of music, I enjoy time with my dog, gardening, yoga, and trying new restaurants.

I believe everyone can make music, and I aim to create a learning space that’s creative, supportive, and student-centered.
